Pick a low end Moto phone (Moto e6 upwards, or Moto G5 plus upwards all support VoLTE, wifi-calling and support for all US carrier LTE bands). While you can use it on a dual sim enabled iPhone and running over the 2nd (local) sim data, I prefer to have a dedicated phone that works with this. Look for a plan that supports wifi-calling T-mo appears to have the best support, AT&T and Verizon do require a lot more jumping through the hoops. What have y'all found that works well? I'll likely be mostly traveling around LATAM, if that makes a difference. What are my options here? I need to be able to maintain my US number for business calls - and would like it to be reliable since I need to be on-call most of the time for when issues arise.

I'll use Fi for this trip, but need to figure something else out as I plan to be overseas for most of 2022 onwards.Īll of the U.S.-based carriers' international plans seem very expensive and coverage is hit or miss in terms of countries covered. So, it seems like that plan isn't going to work for me.

I switched over to Google Fi today in anticipation of a 2-3 month trip to Europe, but just found out that they will cancel service if you're abroad for 3+ months without bouncing back to the U.S. In the past I've done Google voice + local sims but have found it to be fiddly (had issues getting 2FA codes and found the voice app to be. I've been going down the rabbit hole trying to figure out the best plan for international travel.
